Performing Arts
Chinese Dance
The Chinese Dance Club engages professional dance instructors to coach the dancers.
Aims:
To develop leadership skills and acquire positive values like team spirit, graciousness, perseverance, self-discipline and commitment.
To learn the fundamental skills of Chinese Dance and develop grace, flexibility, balance and coordination.
To provide opportunities to perform in school events and competitions.
Essential skills to be taught: Dance techniques for efficient movement execution and expressive performance
Core Values:
Team Spirit | Senior dancers will learn to guide the junior dancers. |
Graciousness | Dancers will learn to care for and encourage fellow dancers. |
Perseverance | Dancers will strive to persevere if they encounter difficulties in mastering the dance movements. |

Commitment Level:
There will be extra dance practices if we need to prepare for competitions and performances.
(On Wednesdays, 2pm- 4pm, till SYF Arts Presentation in the first week of April. Please refer to the CCA schedule for the exact dates. )

Choir CCA
The children have been exposed to a wide array of songs ranging from classical to modern familiar pieces. On top of that, the children learn to sing songs from different languages such as Korean, Japanese to Latin American. A professional and experienced choir conductor will conduct the sessions. The weekly trainings serve to provide opportunities for talented students to represent the school in the Singapore International Choral Festival or the Singapore Youth Festival Presentation. The choir had the opportunity to perform in the National Day Observance Ceremony and various school events. The choir had a tremendously fruitful SYF preparation in the last Presentation in SOTA. Students toiled and learnt what it meant to work with team spirit and perseverance. Students had achieved the Certificate of Participation during the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation in 2022.
Aims:
The main objectives of the choir CCA serve to develop an appreciation for the Arts and to maximize students’ potential in Performing Arts. Furthermore, through the various platforms of performances, students with promising abilities are given opportunities to develop to their personal best.
Essential skills to be taught:
- singing techniques/ voice projection/ musicality through correct phrasing and melodic contours
Progression:
Stages | Description |
Introductory | Members are introduced to basic breathing and vocal techniques to prepare them for accurate singing. |
Intermediate | Members who show talent in the specific sections will be introduced to more advanced musical skills with correct diction. |
Core Values:
Team Spirit | Students will learn to work together to sing in harmony. Students of the various sections will sing and secure their parts. |
Graciousness | Students will learn to develop good listening skills, learn to give feedback to one another and to humbly receive any feedback on areas of improvement. |
Perseverance | Students will have to persevere as the intensity of practices increases nearing performance or competition dates. |
Self-discipline | Students will be self-disciplined to come for practices punctually and to take ownership of their learning by practising at home. |
Teachers in charge: Mdm Rumaizah (I/C) and Ms Angie Neo (2nd I/C)
Commitment Level: Students will undergo an audition to be selected and grouped in the appropriate singing section. Students are expected to come punctually and regularly, every Monday.
Training Frequency (Day and Time) : Monday, 2:30pm - 4:30pm (Music Room 1)
Performances and Past Achievements
The school choir has participated in various external celebrations and events such as the Teck Ghee CC National Day Observance Ceremony, Racial Harmony Day at Teck Ghee CC, Ensemble Series at Singapore Conference Hall, Crime Prevention Campaign.
In 2019, students performed for the Teck Ghee Passion Arts Festival in Bishan Park. They had the opportunity to perform for our residents and Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong. It was a memorable event for our choir members.
Vocal Productions
Some choir members were also involved in the vocal production and presentation for the Green Carpet Award theme song by National Geographic, commemorating "50 years of Greening Singapore". They also had the opportunity to participate in the recording of the Lee Kuan Yew Project Sing-A-Kids for Bilingualism and the Sanden theme song for the Sanden 40th Anniversary Dinner.
Some choir members had the opportunity to be involved in the recording of the bright spot songs that are still being played through the PA system daily. Selected pupils were also involved in the recording and performance of the theme song for Celebration of Learning (COL) 2023.
Modern Dance
Modern Dance aims to teach its members the skills and techniques of dancing as well as inculcate their appreciation for dance. Through various performances and competitions, pupils learn the importance of teamwork and perseverance. Professional dancers are engaged to teach the pupils a repertoire of dances ranging from ballet to hip-hop, lyrical jazz, contemporary and modern dance.
Aims:
● To equip pupils with the skills and techniques of dancing
● To develop pupils’ ability to communicate and express themselves through movement
● To provide opportunities for talents to represent the school in the Singapore Youth Festival competitions as well as performances
● To inculcate pupils’ appreciation for dance
Essential skills to be taught: Basic techniques of different genres of dance (ballet, hip-hop, lyrical jazz, contemporary and modern dance)

Graciousness | Dancers will learn to be humble when they win and to accept defeat graciously |
Perseverance | Dancers will have to persevere as training increases in intensity |

Teachers in charge: Mdm Angelina Boey (I/C) and Mdm Jasamine Lee (2nd I/C)
Commitment Level: The pupils will train once a week on Monday afternoons for 2 hours. Pupils who are selected for SYF and other performances and competitions will be informed of any additional afternoon training, if required.

Guzheng Ensemble
Professional and experienced instructors are engaged to guide members in the acquisition of relevant skills. Members have staged countless performances in school and at national platforms.
Aims:
To provide interested pupils with exposure and experience in learning and mastering the skills of Guzheng
To develop a greater sense of team spirit and responsibilities in members.
Essential skills to be taught:
Basic instrumental skills (Aural skills, Music literacy)
Social skills (Active listening and relationship management)

Commitment Level: Training is conducted once a week on Monday afternoons. Each session lasts 2 hours. There are extra practices if there is competition or rehearsal.

Percussion
The Percussion Club is established with the intention to provide ample opportunities for pupils to perfect their rhythmic skills in a fun and engaging environment and to build up pupils’ confidence in performing in front of different audiences. Pupils can expect to be exposed to a variety of percussion instruments and to be taught by a professional and experienced instructor.
Aims:
To equip pupils with the skills of playing various percussion instruments.
To inculcate in pupils an understanding and appreciation of music and rhythm.
